About Mama Cat

I have been and on-again, off again Democratic political blogger since just after September 11, 2001. I have written on sites such as Daily Kos and other sites under the handle “tonyahky.”

I decided to start this blog not only to write about politics and social issues, but also to share many of the things I have learned over the years about surviving poverty and hardship. I was raised poor in Appalachia and learned a lot of the “old ways” of living from my father. With everything going on in this country right now, most of us are going to have to figure out how we are going to hang on and survive. I hope to share–and learn–from the people who read my blog.

Oh, and people call me Mama Cat because I used to rescue stray kittens.
